I understand I am required to attend TSI developmental courses each semester until successfully completing a developmental program in each area for which TSI requirements have not been satisfied.
I understand that I will have a TSI Hold on my account each semester until I finish my developmental coursework requirements and that I am responsible for scheduling an appointment with my START advisor prior to registration to have the TSI Hold removed.
I understand I am required to make a "C" or better in all developmental coursework in order to move on to the next level. If I do not make a "C" or better in a developmental course, I may be required to re-take the course the following semester. I am responsible for registering for the correct developmental course each semester. In addition, I understand I may be administratively dropped if I enroll in the incorrect class.
I understand that once I am advised into the proper developmental class, I may not drop the course without permission from my START Office advisor. In addition, I understand that I may not test out of TECM 1200 once I am enrolled in the course.
I understand that I may not register for college-level coursework in the area of remediation until I am TSI complete in that area. Examples of college courses TSI math-incomplete students do not qualify to take include, but are not limited to, MATH 1100, MATH 1581, MATH 1681, MATH 1580, MATH 1680, and DSCI 2710. Examples of college courses TSI writing-incomplete students do not qualify to take include, but are not limited to: ENGL 1310, TECM 1312, and TECM 2700. I understand that if I register for a college-level course in the area in which I am TSI incomplete, I will be dropped from the course with the possibility of no refund for the course.
I understand that if I plan to complete developmental coursework off-campus, I am required to provide proof of enrollment by the second week of the UNT semester. If the START Office does not receive proof of off-campus registration, I will be required to participate in an online remediation program and my UNT student account will be charged $_______. I will be required to show progress in the online remediation program before meeting with my START advisor to have my TSI hold removed for the following registration period.
I understand that NCTM 331 and NCTM 351 are not UNT courses. NCTM classes DO NOT factor into my UNT G.P.A., nor are they eligible for grade replacement under the UNT Grade Replacement Policy.
I understand that MyMathLab is a mandatory component of developmental math courses. I will seek help immediately if I encounter problems purchasing MyMathLab or problems with signing in and completing assignments. Failure to purchase MyMathLab may result in being administratively dropped from NCTM 331, NCTM 351, or MATH 1010.
I understand that all developmental courses have MANDATORY attendance rules (refer to attendance policy in class syllabus) and that failure to meet the attendance requirements will result in receiving courtesy phone calls and/or emails from START Interventionists. I understand that poor attendance may adversely affect my grade and may result in being dropped from the course.
I understand that I may only take the Accuplacer two times per semester and that there is a 30 day waiting period to re-test. I understand that $30 is charged to my student account each time I take a part or any portion of the Accuplacer test through the START Office.
I understand that I must adhere to the UNT Student Code of Conduct (http://www.unt.edu/csrr/student_conduct/index.html) and that disruptive behavior during any TSI-mandated class taught at UNT will be reported to the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities and/or the Dean of Students.
I agree to keep my START Advisor informed of situations that may disrupt my academic work. I will consult my advisor immediately if a serious problem (medical, financial, personal) affects my ability to attend classes or interferes with my ability to focus on my education and to do my best academic work.
The Texas Administrative Code Title 19 Part 1 Chapter 4 Subchapter C (Texas Success Initiative) requires students who are enrolled at public universities and colleges to obtain TSI advising and continuously enroll (each long semester) in a formal developmental education program until all TSI requirements are satisfied.
I understand the criteria outlined within this contract and in signing below I commit to following these advising guidelines. Failure to follow these guidelines may delay my registration and / or result in a referral to the Dean of Students.
